Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man accused by the Pennsylvania Game Commission of illegally shooting a bear with a pistol appeared in court Wednesday morning where he waived his preliminary hearing. A state game warden says 87-year-old Sheldon Sharpless admitted to shooting the bear in his back yard in March. Sharpless reportedly said he shot the animal because it “destroyed his bird feeders." Authorities say the bear had to be put down.
NEW YORK (AP) — A fan was ejected from a U.S. Open tennis match early Tuesday morning after German player Alexander Zverev complained the man used language from Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. Zverev, the No. 12 seed, was serving at 2-2 in the fourth set of his match against No. 6 Jannik Sinner when he suddenly went to chair umpire James Keothavong and pointed toward the fan, who was sitting in a section behind the umpire.

Used for the first time in 2022, the changes helped propel the first Alaska Native to a seat in Congress. They could be short-lived. Opponents of ranked voting want to repeal it and are entangled in a legal fight over whether their initiative will be able to remain on Alaska's November ballot.

STATE COLLEGE -- State College police are looking for two men who are accused of a burglary at Penn Towers on Feb. 4. Police released surveillance footage of the two men who they believe are involved. Police said the two broke into an apartment and broke several items before vandalizing a mural in the lobby. Voters in the state House’s 80th District will have the chance to vote for a new Republican candidate this November. Candidate Scott Barger has secured the Republican nomination in Tuesday’s primary with 5,396 votes cast in his favor in Blair County, according to unofficial election results. He also scored an additional 252 votes in Huntingdon County. The nod comes as an upset for state Rep. Jim Gregory, who secured 4,434 votes in Blair County and 215 in Huntingdon County, according to unofficial results.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Several Bedford County law enforcement agencies came together Monday to announce the arrests of 22 people accused of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses. Authorities say members of six different Bedford County law enforcement agencies began serving the arrest warrants at 7 a.m. Monday after an investigation that spanned several months and involved controlled buys using undercover officers and confidential informants.
BELLEFONTE, Pa (WJAC) — Suzanne's Fine Cuts in Bellefonte opened its doors at 9 a.m. Friday morning, and was one of many hair salons that re-opened now that Centre County has moved into the Green phase. Customers can get on a waiting list and wait outside, or wait inside, while following social distancing guidelines. "We have sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and Lysol. We are trying to do all we can do, and our customers have masks, we’re doing whatever it takes,” said salon owner Suzanne Krebs.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) – Gwen Fisher, Pennsylvania CareerLink’s site administrator for Bedford and Blair Counties said prior to the pandemic many counties in the commonwealth were enjoying some of the lowest unemployment numbers in decades. “We had historically low unemployment rates and we headed into the spring around 5% and 6% for both Blair and Bedford County.” Fisher said unemployment numbers skyrocketed when businesses started closing due to the Coronavirus.
