The Altoona City Council met on Monday night to discuss a plethora of new ordinances.
One of these ordinances is the increase of an equipment lease purchase agreement for new fire department equipment such as pumper and ladder fire trucks.
The increase is going from 2 million to 4 million dollars. Councilmembers cited that the idea behind the ordinance is to be able to upkeep the department’s vehicles on a regular basis.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police have filed hundreds of charges against a Bedford County couple in connection to an animal abuse case that resulted in over 90 dogs being rescued from a home around New Year's.
Troopers say in late December, police were contacted by an employee at the Banfield Pet Hospital in Maryland, who reportedly expressed concerns over several dogs that had been recently treated at the facility.
PARK CITY, Utah (KUTV) — Gwyneth Paltrow is standing trial on Tuesday for an incident at a Utah ski resort that prompted a skier's lawsuit.
The trial is happening in Third District Court in Park City at 9 a.m. and is expected to last about a week.
The $3.9 million hit-and-run lawsuit was filed in 2019 by a Utah man who claimed he sustained a brain injury, in addition to multiple broken bones, after Paltrow crashed into him on the Deer Valley Resort slopes in 2016.
Somerset Twp. (WJAC) — Pennsylvania State Police say an unidentified 17-year-old and his 20-year-old passenger died in a head-on crash on S. Edgewood Ave. in Somerset Township early Saturday morning.
Officials say the crash happened just after midnight.
Troopers say Braxton Judy, 21, of Somerset was driving southbound on S. Edgewood Ave., just south of S. Center Ave., in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, when he failed to negotiate a right curve at a high rate of speed, crossed into the opposite lane of travel, and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by the teen, head-on.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Blair County War Veterans Council is calling for veterans to participate Monday in the Altoona Memorial Day Parade.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. and lineup begins at 9:15 a.m.
Veterans can walk in the parade, but cars will also be available for those who feel more comfortable riding.
Following the parade, a service will be held on 11th Avenue.

BELLEVUE, Wash. (KOMO) — The largest moth in the world has been found in Washington state, and officials are working to find out if it was alone or if there are more living there.
An atlas moth found in Bellevue was reported to the Washington State Department of Agriculture on July 7. Entomologists were able to identify it as an atlas moth and sent it to the USDA, which also confirmed it on July 27.
RIDGWAY, Pa. — A trial began Wednesday for an Elk County man accused of stabbing and killing another last year.
Harvey Detterline III, 37, of Byrnedale, is accused of killing 29-year-old Richard Hicks after locking him out of an apartment in Johnsonburg Aug. 16.
In opening statements, the prosecution said this case is not factually complicated.
Assistant District Attorney Tom Coppolo said the description of the events leading up to the homicide will prove Detterline did not act in self-defense.
The fire marshal is investigating after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Jefferson County Friday, leaving four families displaced, officials said.
According to Perry Township Fire Chief Tim Fetterhoff, crews were dispatched around 4 p.m. Friday to an apartment building along Route 536 in Perry Township.
Officials stated that crews arrived on scene to fire coming out of about every window on the upper level of the building.
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General say a Centre County sex offender is back behind bars after investigators discovered dozens of images of child pornography on his phone.
Officials say they began investigating last October after agents received a report of suspected child pornography being uploaded via the social media app known as Discord.
Authorities say the account was later linked to an address in Howard, Centre County, where 39-year-old Eric Mann reportedly resided.
