RIDGWAY - A Johnsonburg man is dead after a head-on crash in Elk County Tuesday evening.
It happened on Long Level Road in Ridgway around 4:30 p.m.
State police say 43-year-old Mathew Smith lost control of his car and hit another vehicle head-on.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver in the other vehicle was taken to Penn Highlands Elk for injuries. No word on their condition.

(TND) — North Carolina school officials are being accused of violating a student's constitutional rights after suspending him for saying the words "illegal aliens" in class.
The Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit this week against the Davidson County Board of Education in Lexington, North Carolina, on behalf of a 16-year-old student. An assistant principal at the school is also named in the suit.
The boy, Christian McGhee, asked a clarifying question in class that resulted in “a harsh suspension and false accusations of racism by his own school,” according to the Liberty Justice Center.
CHESTER CO., PA (WJAC)- Danelo Cavalcante, the escaped prison inmate, has been captured.
It's still unclear the details surrounding his arrest.

BOALSBURG, Pa. – Happy Valley's top chef will be crowned this weekend in the Golden Basket Finals. The event is a collaboration of local farmers markets and it's about more than just competition.
Centre Markets, Appalachian Food Works and the Downtown State College Improvement District are working together to make this event happen. JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown resident Ron Esposito is using his wife's death to warn others about the dangers of pools, and those dangers include more than drownings.
After three children, 11 grandchildren and almost 49 years of marriage, Ron watched his wife, Jean, die as their above-ground swimming pool collapsed.
"That's where she was at when I saw her, over beside those rugs," Esposito said.
On May 30, Kathleen Esposito, who was known to her friends and family as Jean, was killed while trying to drain excess water out of her above-ground pool.
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — A newly elected Clearfield County official accused of stealing a campaign sign belonging to one of his political opponents has reportedly entered a guilty plea in the case, according to online court records.
In November, Timothy Winters was elected to the Clearfield County Board of Commissioners.
Then, he was charged following an investigation into accusations that he allegedly stole a “Vote Mary Tatum Commissioner” sign from outside of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Company.
The area of the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel along the Pennsylvania Turnpike would instead be a 1,000-foot-wide gash in the mountain if plans by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission follow through.
Chairman of a group called ‘Citizens to Save the Allegheny Mountain Randy Musser said the environmental effects that could be caused make this a "destructive plan."
The Turnpike Commission said there are multiple reasons this project is needed. Those reasons include an increased accident rate in and approaching the tunnel, both directions of the tunnel need "
